Towns near Valencia

Valencia is a wonderful place to live in and to visit. What's more, visiting or living in Valencia is not limited, solely and exclusively, to the city itself, but it also relates to the entire province. In fact, there is a great variety of charming towns that are worth finding out about. Therefore, on this occasion, we want to talk about four towns that we consider the most interesting. We assure you that if you visit them, you will be pleasantly surprised by their beauty.

1. Xátiva

Xátiva is a Valencian municipality that is located in the southern part of the province. It is the capital of La Costera region and has a population of 30,000. In the past, this place was one of the most important in the Kingdom of Valencia. So much so that it came to seriously rival Orihuela and, of course, Valencia itself. Since then, there was the construction of an imposing castle in the mountain range of Vernisa and it has been the symbol of strength for centuries. The origins of this castle are not very well known, which further adds to its mystery.

2. Ontinyent

Ontinyent, better known outside the Valencian Community as Onteniente and for its 'Moors and Christians' festival, is another charming town in the province. Beyond its architectural richness, it is the place where 'Pou Clar' (Pozo Claro) is located. This is a totally paradisiacal place to which hundreds of intrepid visitors flock every day. In particular, it is a succession of perfectly crystalline waters located in the mountains and perfect for swimming.

3. Náquera

Náquera is another of those towns that surprises the visitors by its undeniable charm. Within its urban nucleus, it is possible to see small houses and a hermitage built by hand by its own locals as well as the Nuestra Señora de la Encarnació Church that is key to understanding the academic style. On the outskirts, the Students' Cave (Cueva de los Estudiantes) and Pi de Salt, a centenary pine tree surrounded by beautiful natural landscape, are its main attractions.

4. Serra

We want to finish this short list of charming towns near Valencia by talking about Serra. This municipality is well-known for Cartuja de Portaceli, which dates from the end of the thirteenth century, and for its castle which, although at the moment is practically in ruins, it was valued for having been the refuge of El Cid Campeador army during the battle of Valencia. For its part, it is surrounded by really beautiful landscapes propitiated by Sierra Calderona.
