Valencia and its markets

One of the most vibrant cities of Spain lies on the shores of the Mediterranean. Valencia is a combination of beach, city, history, and special nightlife, which have turned it into the largest and most important city in Spain. People who stroll through its streets will be so dazzled by its culture that they will want to return for another visit.

This city is iconic as it refers to international fairs, which have been holding countless venues and events since 1917. In fact, visitors will be delighted to see the best of Valencia on an international level, with its numerous exhibits, conferences, and trade fairs. This historic capital possesses a past that dates from 138 BC and is integrated with modern and innovative structures that symbolise the thriving city that it's become now. Valencia serves as a gateway to the Mediterranean.

One such exquisite and emblematic place to visit is Mercado Colón (Colón Market), located in the heart of the city in Jorge Juan Street. Top restaurants and places to enjoy a cup of coffee or drink are at the centre of this market. In addition, you can find various shops that offer you many products and foods. This market is located in one of the most influential commercial areas of the city. Its structure combines the modernist style of the past and the avant-garde trends of the present, creating a contemporary and elegant atmosphere that captivates all those who visit it.

Within walking distance of Colón market, you can take a walk around Puente de las Flores (The Bridge of Flowers), a place that's full of surprises with its ornamental decoration and lots of flowers every day of the year. Although the types of flowers can change during seasons, you can still find a variety of colours. Another attraction near this market, is the Pasaje Ripalpa that attracts the attention of many by its interior decoration and the covered glass gallery. This passage was built for commercial purposes at the end of 19th century. Even to this day, it houses a large number of shops and properties, the availability of which can be checked with the real estate consultants at Engel & Völkers Valencia.

Several blocks away from this market, there is the Plaza de Toros. This is a place that you shouldn't miss out on, as you will love its architectural beauty that's identical to the great Roman coliseums. Plaza de Toros is considered to be a historical monument. It was built in the middle of the 19th century with old-style bricks. This monument is one of the largest and most beautiful structures in Spain.

When visiting the city, one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have is to try the local products at Mercado Central (Central Market). There are more than 400 stalls on offer with locally-grown fresh produce. This market is the largest in Europe, in which 1500 people are ready to offer their attention and services to customers in order to help them make their daily purchases.

Located in Plaza Ciudad de Brujas, Central Market specialises in fresh seafood products such as fish and shellfish, fruits, vegetables as well as nuts. This market fulfils the demand of local consumers by offering some of the best restaurants in the city. There is also the convenience of getting your products delivered to your home or office, if you wish to do so. Since this market has advanced since 1996, orders can now be taken online.

Next to the market, you will find the church of San Juan del Mercado, which stands out as a historic artistic monument, where the gothic structure that was originally burnt was restored and converted into a baroque. This structure holds a lot of history as it dates back to the medieval era. It is certainly a a major attraction and should be included in your next visit to the city. Opposite the market will also find La Lonja de la Seda, a unique place that's marked as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. This was a meeting point for traders and merchants who brought much wealth and power to this city during the Middle Ages.
