Valencia, one of the best destinations for 2018 by The Guardian

Valencia has been chosen as one of the 40 most attractive cities to visit during 2018 by the popular British newspaper, The Guardian. According to the review written by its journalists, the City of Arts and Sciences, Fallas and the Veles e Vents have been the main winning ingredients. So much so that it has managed to sneak between more traditional tourist destinations such as Paris, Moscow, Amsterdam and Cairo. In addition, in the words of the newspaper itself, Valencia offers a truly remarkable cultural, gastronomic and leisure services.

This recognition about Valencia by The Guardian could not have come at a better time. This is due mainly to the fact that the city has just launched numerous new air routes that will connect it directly with Glasgow, Luton (London) and Edinburgh directly from Manises Airport. These routes are added to those that already existed with the United Kingdom, so it is expected that during 2018, even more visitors from that country will fly to the capital of Turia.

Undoubtedly, the most outstanding point for The Guardian has been the City of Arts and Sciences designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, which houses the largest aquarium in Europe, a spectacular planetarium and an avant-garde opera house. In fact, now that the 20th anniversary of its inauguration is celebrated, the newspaper affirms that its impact, in terms of utmost exposure for Valencia, has been similar to that achieved by Bilbao through the opening of the Guggenheim Museum.

But there is more. The prestigious English newspaper has also mentioned the role played by the certain key events in the city, such as the Copa America de Vela 2007, which represented an enormous development of the maritime part of Valencia, and the World Championship Formula 1 events that took place there. Veles e Vents, which is a 'floating' building that acted as the venue for the race, now houses three restaurants, one of them with Michelin stars.

According to the editors of The Guardian, the best time to visit the city will be between March 15th and 19th, 2018. The reason lies in the fact that those are the dates reserved for the celebration of Fallas, the typical Valencia street party that once again promises to stir emotions.

However, anyone who is familiar with Valencia knows perfectly well that any time of the year is good to pay a visit to this city. The recognition from one of the most recognised and prestigious British newspapers in history certainly confirms this statement.
