What to do in Valencia during July

Summer is particularly warm and that's why it is mandatory to fill it with refreshing activities as well as fun and enriching in cultural terms. Valencia is one of the best Spanish destinations to spend the month of July and travellers can complete their tour with all kinds of events, most of which present a musical theme. To make a brief selection of the most outstanding events, these would be the four shows that should not be missed in any visit to Valencia.

The Jardines de Viveros 2017 concerts stand out as the most popular choice for their thematic variety and the remarkable quality of the performances. Between June 30th and July 25th, Jardines de Viveros will once again show up in the open air when the high temperatures begin to emerge. The doors will open at 19:30. As far as the entertainment is concerned, the organisers have alternated the performances of great international and local artists. Some of the confirmed singers and groups are La Oreja de Van Gogh, Leiva, Love of Lesbian, and Carlos Vives.

Also during the month of July the series of concerts will continue in the form of the third edition of 'Sons del Botànic', a project that combines musical interpretation with environmental preservation. In total, there are six performances scheduled between May and September, one of which will be held next month. Specifically, on July 21st there will be the turn of Arcana Has Soul, a Valencian group that will take advantage of the festival to promote its third LP, 'The Importance'. As usual, the concert will be open air at the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia.

Obviously, July will not be complete in Valencia without the Battle of the Flowers. The colourful event is one of the highlights of the July Fair in Valencia, traditionally celebrated on the last Sunday of the month. Taking advantage of Paseo de la Alameda, people march on the streets while throwing flower petals to the attendants, who, logically, respond with the same.

To conclude, the July Fair also includes the Fair of San Jaime taurina, which this year has an exceptional itinerary. Between 19th and 23rd of July, for the Valencian cosso they will pass first swords of the international bullfighting like Andrés Roca Rey, Sebastián Castella and Jose Maria Manzanares, one of the idols of the local fans. As a special detail at the 2017 edition, a tribute will be celebrated on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the legendary 'Manolete'.
