Easter is a great time for tourists who like to take advantage of the holidays regardless of whether it is to discover the colourful and vibrancy of the traditional religious celebrations or to discover the attractions of the region. For these trips, it is essential to arrange the accommodation before going out, because every minute counts. That is why you can count on the prestige and the seriousness of Engel & Völkers Valencia to find you a house or an apartment in the metropolitan area of the city. Maritime festivities

The traditional Santa Marinera week has more than 500 years of history and can already be seen on the streets of Poblats Marítims, the area closest to the city's port. Ranging from releasing pigeons to flower petal rains, Domingo de Resurrección is very much characterised by colourful processions, which are primarily on the parade. It tends to be accompanied by bands that contribute with their signature marches and sones.

Its best moments include trenca dels Pérols, the tradition of throwing out water and old silverware from houses during the night of glory, when the fun and thunderous celebrations begin everywhere. Those broken glasses symbolise renewal, starting a new cycle of life.

Celebrations in Alzira and Benetusser

Alzira, a town of more than forty thousand inhabitants is another region for medieval festival origin. Located about 40 kilometres from Valencia, it stands out for its cultural heritage, with attractions such as the remarkable convent known as the monastery of La Murta. Their parties were declared of national tourist interest and its highlight is the General procession of burial Holy, that tends to bring together thousands of parishioners.

For its part, the Holy Benetússer week is another one of those important events in the region. Started in 1949 by pastor Eduardo Ballester, he manages the participation of almost everyone in this town consisting of no less fifteen thousand inhabitants. Vivid theatrical performances from the scenes The Passion of Christ can be watched, and there is a theatre group that works throughout the year since a few decades ago.

Get to know the city of Valencia

These holidays are the perfect opportunity to explore the religious architectural heritage of the area, such as Iglesia and Torre Santa Catalina. Built in the 13th century on a mosque, it underwent several reconstructions over the past centuries. At the beginning of the 1700 a magnificent hexagonal tower with a height of 56 metres was built. It was a remarkable example of Baroque architecture. You can also discover Cathedral of Santa Maria, a beautiful example of the style known as Valencian Gothic. When you take a walk here, you will discover dozens of details from different eras in the building.

For those who seek further attractions during their devotional tour, a visit to the City of Arts and Sciences is essential in order to explore the dazzling complex designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. Opened in 1998, it is a centre for gathering people from cinemas to performing arts, passing by all kinds of exhibitions and even an aquarium. In addition, the city of Arts and Sciences is located in the old riverbed of Turia River, also known as the Turia gardens: A large green space which crosses the city from East to West along 9 km. Its hallmarks are the bridges that cross River Turia. This route is called Palau de la Música, a meeting point for lovers.
