This town in Monferrato is in fact in the final with Agrigento, Bitonto, Macerata, Merano, Nuoro, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Treviso.
The MIBACT has decided to reward the will to redeem the cities that, precisely through culture, are promoting their relaunch.
The dossier of the candidature, the daily commitment of the citizens and its resilient strength have been fundamental to this prestigious award, which sees Casale Monferrato the only Piedmontese representative among the "magnificent ten".
The Italian well-known actor Marco D 'Amore, protagonist of "Un Posto Sicuro" famous in cinemas, television and theaters, during an interview underlined its strong potential, its richness and the welcoming capacity of this town of Casale Monferrato: art, architecture and its eno-gastronomic excellence are already wide-ranging.
Adopted by the local community during the shooting of the film, he affirms that if by culture we mean the ability to defend its land with unity, tenacity and dignity to deliver it to its children healthy, clean, welcoming and also safeguarded in its glorious history, then Casale Monferrato is certainly the city of Italy that more than any other deserves the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2020.
The winning city will represent for one year the new national cultural and tourist offer, implementing its project thanks to an important state contribution.
Good news for Casale and Monferrato: the competitors are very respectable and Casale is the only town to represent Piedmont in this initiative.
The title of Italian Capital of Culture 2020 will be assigned, as usual, as part of a public ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry, in Rome, next 16 February.
