Playing sports in Tuscany Maremma

The Ombrone river is like an open-air gym where you can enjoy several sports, from kayaking to trekking

When we think of the naturalistic beauties of the wonderful Tuscany Maremma, Ombrone river is not the first place that comes to mind.

Still, this is the third longest Tuscan river. Following its path, you will find yourself immersed in the wild nature typical of this land. Lose yourself in the relaxing sounds of the flowing water, the rustle of the leaves and the singing of the birds!

From the Chianti Mountains to Grosseto area

The Ombrone was born on the south-eastern side of the Chianti Mountains and then flows towards the Maremma. Sometimes, the sands of Chianti give its clean waters a yellowish color. After touching the outskirts of the capital Grosseto, the Ombrone crosses the Maremma Natural Park and flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea, between the seaside locations Principina a Mare and Marina di Alberese.

Trekking, biking, rafting, kayaking and SUP

The Ombrone valley is the perfect place to spend a nice day with friends.

The river is entirely navigable. Perhaps the most beautiful stretch is the 13 km between the villages of Molino di Pari and Monte Antico.

Just rent a kayak or a SUP to navigate the river! You can also go rafting. On the other hand, if you prefer not to get wet, there are several itineraries perfect for horseback riding, cycling, trekking or hiking. For example, the 8 km stretch from the charming villages of Paganico to Campagnatico, will transport you back in time. The road from Casal di Pari to Castello del Belagio will lead you - even on foot - through the Farma Nature Reserve.

In fact, near the river you can visit enchanting villages such as Casal di Pari, Pari, Civitella Marittima, Paganico, Campagnatico, Sasso d'Ombrone, Batignano, Sticciano, as well as the Etruscan Roselle.
