The number of home offices skyrocketed during the lockdown. The emergency solution, which left many people working at the kitchen table or in improvised offices, actually turned out to be quite convincing. More and more companies and employees want to keep the home office option, at least as an alternative work solution. Here are the tips from Engel & Völkers.
At the company you have an ergonomic workplace with office chair and desk. This is also the best possible option if you are setting up your home office. A height-adjustable desk or table allows you to work in a standing position, which relieves your back, neck and shoulders. Moreover, place something under the laptop or keyboard to raise it up, so to keep your neck and back straight, as well as don’t strain your eyes. Finally, choose a spot near a window to benefit of natural light and fresh air.
Ideally, use two computers to separate work-related data from personal content. Of course, these should not be connected to each other. If this is unavoidable, ask your employer about security precautions. This includes antivirus programmes and encryption technologies. Pay particular attention to the security settings on your home WiFi router. Ask for a professional help to avoid cyberattacks.
Having clearly defined rules makes things a lot easier. You can arrange your working hours according to new criteria that meet the requirements of you and your family. You can plan in enough time for each other. And that is one of the biggest advantages of the home office: having more time for yourself and your loved ones!
Advantages for companies and employers include focused work, time and cost savings and a less polluted air. On the other hand, many people do not want to renounce to the personal contact with both customers and colleagues. They miss the synergy and the interchange, indeed. This, however, no longer needs to take place on a daily basis.
Moreover, working remotely gives the opportunity, for example, to work for a German company from a seaside Italian village. Indeed, the only thing needed is an excellent internet connection. In addition, the lockdown taught us that we needed bigger houses so to separate the “office” space from the “family” area. And it is even better if there is a garden to enjoy relaxing moments.
If you are interested in living in contact with nature, far from stressful big towns, than you should consider moving to Tuscany Maremma or at least to buy a holiday home.
