Donatella Versace comes back to the lake with big news: she has just bought Villa Mondadori

It has been 11 years since the Muscovite real estate developer Arkady Novikov bought Gianni Versace’s home in Moltrasio (Como) for 33 million euros. It happened during Spring 2008 and it was one of the greatest purchases on Lago di Como. The family of the renowned fashion designer, who died in 1997, decided to come back on the Lake, this time choosing Lago Maggiore.

The property, a large historical light pink abode, spans across a surface of 1,400 square metres and overlooks the Lake directly. It consists of at least 50 rooms, 20 of which are bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, as well as a garden, a garage and a swimming pool.

This Villa Lago Maggiore was bought by the Mondadori family during the ‘20s and since then, many famous personalities have stayed there as guests, from Walt Disney to George Simenon. Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Mann, who spent long vacations there with his wife, are certainly two of the most illustrious guests of Villa Mondadori.

This Villa has been for sale at Engel&Völkers Lago Maggiore for a while.

The arrival of Donatella Versace on Lago Maggiore may have contributed to its fame, making it more glamour and similar to Lake Como, which has recently witnessed something unusual. That is, the former US president, Barack Obama, and his wife have been George Clooney’s guests for a brief holiday.

Nowadays, the most exclusive towns in the area are undoubtedly Stresa, with apartment prices from 2,800 and 3,300 euros per square metre and Cannobio, with prices from 2,900.00 and 3,200.00 euros per square metres. Prices on Lago Maggiore are competitive, if compared to those on the other Italian northern lakes, since Lago Maggiore has not reached the same fame yet.

Among the most exclusive towns on the Lake, Arona and Ghiffa are considered to be the most important ones and emerging. That is the reason why the prices for apartments and villas are destined to rise within the next three years.
