On Saturday 29 May the international cycling race started from Verbania. And just the day before there was the passage on Lago d'Orta and Lago Maggiore
It is the sporting event that best represent the beauties of Italy to the world. A pink plot that crosses regions, municipalities, hamlets for a storytelling of our country that travels from television to television throughout the globe.
The 2021 edition of the race, now in its 104th edition, saw Lago Maggiore as a great protagonist, with two stages that involved this splendid territory. A two-day trip that first crossed many lakeside locations (with Abbiategrasso - Alpe di Mera stage), while the following day the pink caravan left from Verbania for then coasting Lago Maggiore. An extraordinary showcase, broadcast in 185 countries.
The nineteenth stage of Giro d'Italia, which took place on Friday 28 May, started from Abbiategrasso and ended in Valsesia, on the ramps of Alpe Mera, and saw the victory of the British Simon Yates.
Before the final kilometers, the cyclists passed through Lago d'Orta, Stresa, Gravellona Toce and Baveno, before returning to Lago d'Orta and arriving in Omegna. In short, a beautiful postcard that to some may have sparked an illuminating idea: “what if I were looking for a house for sale on Lago d'Orta?”.
The peace of its villages, starting with Orta San Giulio, in recent years has in fact been able to attract many investors, not only Italians.
Lago Maggiore was even more protagonist the following day, for the twentieth stage which started from Verbania and ended with the uphill arrival of Alpe Motta. It was a highly anticipated alpine stage, with three climbs, which saw the heroic victory of the Italian cyclist Damiano Caruso (later second in the general final classification) and the good performance of Egan Bernal, the twenty-four year old Colombian winner of the 2021 edition.
The departure from Verbania was also an excellent opportunity to see the cyclists up close, especially Filippo Ganna, who is actually from Verbania and a time trial phenomenon, of which he is reigning world champion. Not surprisingly, even in Giro d'Italia he dominated the two races against time, wearing the pink jersey for a few days.
After the start located along Pallanza Lake Promenade, where the signature podium, the hospitality, the press area and the sponsor areas found space, the cyclists continued on the SS34 road of Lago Maggiore, towards the Swiss border, thus facing part of the western shore of the lake and passing through Cannero, Cannobio, up to the encroachment in Switzerland at Locarno. 30 km of authentic splendor that once again highlighted the beauty of Lago Maggiore and its villas.
Also in this case, who knows if someone, connected around the world, may not have the desire to buy a villa overlooking Lago Maggiore. If so, the Engel & Völkers real esate agents are ready to reveal the most exclusive proposals in the area!
