At the end of the grape harvest and as a sign of gratitude for another successful harvest, it has become a tradition in Merano to celebrate the famous Grape Festival on the third weekend of October. The first edition of the Merano Grape Festival took place already in 1886. It is therefore the oldest harvest festival in South Tyrol. The well-known float with the apple crown has been part since 1949, while in 2001 the celebrations have been extended to three days.
In this special year of 2020, the schedule certainly had to be adapted to the current situation and circumstances. That is why this year’s Merano Grape Festival will take place on October 17th and 18th. On these two days, Merano will be all about customs, culture, music, wine, and traditional culinary delicacies. Unfortunately, this year the actual highlight of the festival, the Sunday parade of decorated floats through the town's alleys, cannot take place. Hopefully, the parade can be held again in 2021.
Nevertheless, we warmly recommend a visit this year too, it will be worth it!
