120 metres to start over. 120 are the metres of the walking gangway that connects Santa Margherita Ligure to Portofino, the so-called “Pedonale della Carega”, that frees Paraggi and Portofino from the isolation of the last weeks. The 227 vehicle accessible street as indeed been destroyed by the sea and wind storm on the 20th October 2018, leaving the two villages with no connection. The opening’s timing is ideal: as the holiday season is beginning, the walking gangway will allow people to freely move between the villages.
The road will be rebuilt before April 2019, just in time for Easter’s celebration, thanks to the subsidy of the Metropolitan City. The fast and proactive response to this crisis testifies the willing of every surrounding village to stay strong and start over, and with the help of everyone, this will happen very soon.
