The
oldest bank in Europe, will open again to the public, offering guided and free tours around the museum and the historical archive of its historic headquarters,
Palazzo Salimbeni. The Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena considers its extraordinary artistic heritage a treasure to be shared with the community in which it operates and with this series of extraordinary monthly openings it wants to give the opportunity to those who wish to visit the museum and learn about the masterpieces.
Visitors will find themselves living a unique experience among the work of
Pietro Lorenzetti, one of the masters of the Sienese school; the baroque art of
Bernardino Mei and the metaphysical painting of
Giorgio de Chirico. Then there will be other Sienese or city-related artists such as Giovanni Fattori, Ottone Rosai and Gino Severini. Among the foreign artists we find
Henry Moore, of British origin, famous for his large bronze works and marble sculptures.
Along with the precious works of art, enthusiasts will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of Siena through the
historical archive, containing all the administrative and financial documentation, including the famous
Biccherna Tablets, a series of wooden tablets used for the binding of accounting records of the Biccherna Office which administered the income and expenditure of Siena.
A unique opportunity to rediscover the neo-Gothic architecture of the Palazzo Castellare of the noble Salimbeni family, unified at
Palazzo Tantucci and
Palazzo Spannocchi by architect and designer
Pierluigi Spadolini in 1970.
At the end of the tour, the visitors of Rocca Salimbeni, will be greeted by the notes of the students of the university courses of
