In 2015, the demand for mortgages by Italian families increased by 97%

The Italian real estate market is showing signs of recovery. According to data from ABI(Italian Banking Association), in 2015, new mortgage loans granted for the purchase of properties by households recorded an annual increase of 97.1% compared to 2014.

More in detail, the amount of new mortgages approved in 2015 was €49.826 billion compared with €25.283 billion the same period in 2014, with an annual increase of 97.1%.

The value of new mortgage loans in 2015 was even more than double the amount recorded in 2013, when it was around €19.085 billion, and 2012 (€20.712 billion). Adjustable-rate mortgages represented 42.8% of the new loans throughout 2015; in recent months, the fixed-rate mortgages have increased, reaching two thirds of the new loans in December 2015, while they accounted for 25% twelve months earlier.
