What unites the painting of Francesco Lauretta (Ispica, 1964) to that of Luigi Presicce (Porto Cesareo 1976)? This is the first two-person exhibition built together by these two well-known names in the contemporary art circuits that already boast singularly personal and collective exhibitions carried out in every part of the world.
An inevitable and happy debut after three syncopated years, spent weekly in that School of Santa Rosa they founded in Florence and which every Tuesday morning is renewed wherever possible their true devotion to painting.
Luigi and Francesco are now exhibited in the newly formed San Sebastiano Contemporary / Casa Bramante, with works that have grown up during these years full of meetings and reflections that have something extraordinary simply because their painting is reborn here with awareness ... and happiness: in these new works of theirs feelings of wonder and suggestion gush with incandescent faith.
The title of this exhibition is also a hug says it all: I appeared at Cézanne's apple. The same title is at the head of a critical text that Presicce composed for the occasion and which can be read here https://www.sansebastianocontemporary.it/Artisti/francesco-lauretta/
Francesco Lauretta (who now normally resides in Florence) repaints, returns, renovates and turns the old into a new extraordinary one: his six oils of various sizes present on the first floor of the gallery embrace each other: mysteriously the painter has entitled them Como siempre accompanying them with a very learned paper that can be read here https://www.sansebastianocontemporary.it/Artisti/francesco-lauretta/
. At the center of this unstructured "polyptych" is the canvas representing the "sciuta" of San Sebastiano presented for the first time right here at San Sebastiano Contemporary a few hundred meters from where the event takes place (for centuries but not this time).
Luigi Presicce used to large dimensions and metamorphosis, he sinks into the abyss and paints it. One of his oils that appears in the gallery measures 200 x 180 cm. Only gigantism can guarantee the permanence of the two souls in tension: that of the performer and that of the painter.
While Lauretta never fails to notice how great is the need for the viewer to turn his gaze outside the frame, Presicce reabsorbs the transits of the theatrical machines in his canvases. The colors of their works speak to each other, one responds to the other.
The day following the vernissage on Friday 7, at 6.00 pm on Saturday 8 August Lauretta and Presicce on the steps of the church of San Sebastiano will give life to a new edition of their academy, La Scuola di Santa Rosa. With an involving performative act they will sit down to draw together; for others - anyone else - to join and do it with them right then: on any surface with any tool at their disposal.
The exhibition can be visited every day from 11.00 to 13.00 and from 17.00 to 21.00
