The Feast of the Redeemer Venice is coming

The fireworks of the upcoming weekend Redeemer Feast are just one of the attractions that will make the venetian Lagoon a unique place.

When is the Redentore Feast in Venice planned? It is one of the questions that tourists ask themselves most often at the beginning of summer. The answer is known to every Venetian: the third Sunday of July, with the festivities starting on Friday. The Feast of the Redeemer Venice has about five centuries of history: it is celebrated every year since 1577 to commemorate the end of the terrible plague that caused the death of a third of the population. The fulcrum of the festival is the church of the same name built from the same year on the Giudecca following the project of the architect Andrea Palladio. This was in fact the destination of the procession on the pontoon bridge that still carries faithful and tourists to the heart of the religious building. The bridge was built in the days immediately preceding the party, is supported by 34 boats and is illuminated by 140 lamps for all 333 meters in length.

For the Redentore 2022 the opening is scheduled to start at 20.00 on Friday 15 July with the official ceremony presided over by the mayor and the patriarch of Venice. From that moment and for three days it can be crossed to get to the Church where more religious ceremonies will be celebrated over the three days.

If crossing the walkway is one of the emotions that all lovers of Venice should experience, the rest of the program of the Venice Redentore festival will be equally significant. In fact, on Saturday there will be the lighting of the lights and then the traveling music on the Grand Canal, the San Marco Basin, the Zattere and the Giudecca. Sunday, on the other hand, will be the turn of the Redeemer Regattas divided into three different moments: the departure of the young people, that of the two-oared pupparini and finally the gondolas.

However, the moment that everyone knows and remembers is that of the Redeemer fireworks which illuminate the lagoon on Saturday night. Also this year, starting at 11.30 pm, the great fireworks display is scheduled to be managed through 30 thousand triggers on 25 floating stations. To attend, it will be necessary to grab - by booking on the appropriate platform - a place in the various private boats made available for the occasion or in one of the three observation points set up by the Municipality in le Zattere, in Piazzetta San Marco, in Riva degli Schiavoni and Giudecca. The quota positions are reserved at least initially for residents and then open to external visitors. All the others will still be able to watch the show from other more distant but still suggestive points such as Punta della Dogana or the Lido.
