The municipality of Steinfort is located in the centre-west of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and comprises the villages of Steinfort, Kleinbettingen, Hagen and Grass. The total surface area of the municipality is 12.2 km². It currently has around 5,800 inhabitants of over 90 different nationalities.
Surrounded by large forests and cultivated fields, the municipality lies at the entrance to the idyllic Eisch Valley, known as the "Valley of the Seven Castles", and is also just a stone's throw from the Belgian border.
Line 50 of the Luxembourg railways provides good connections between the capital of Luxembourg and Steinfort (Kleinbettingen station), as well as the Belgian capital (Brussels).
The journey from Kleinbettingen station to Luxembourg Central Station takes around fifteen to twenty minutes. In terms of educational facilities, in addition to its Maison Relais and its Ecole Fondamentale, Steinfort also offers several private crèches. Thanks to its countless shops (butchers, bakers, supermarkets, wine merchants, florists, chemists, hairdressers, etc.), associations, events and a wide range of leisure activities, Steinfort is a very lively commune, which also offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation.
Steinfort is home to two cycle paths, one on the old railway line from Linger to Colmar-Berg and the other linking up with Luxembourg City. The "Belarel" circuit in Arlon is also accessible either via the Eischen-Clairefontaine junction or by crossing the border at Steinfort-Sterpenich.
As well as numerous footpaths and the national cycle path, the municipality also boasts a sports hall, municipal swimming pool, football stadium, tennis courts and skate park. The sports hall is currently being refurbished and will soon form a modern complex in the immediate vicinity of the existing school infrastructure. This sports complex will be easily accessible for both children and residents of Steinfort and the surrounding area. For all those who love thrills and adrenalin, the "Steinfort Adventure" climbing park is sure to please, with more than 91 workshops spread over 10 courses of varying difficulty.
The Schwaarzenhaff Nature Reserve, part of the Grand Duchy's largest Natura 2000 site, is one of the last refuges for the natterjack toad. Access is via the "Mirador" nature conservation centre, which provides a wealth of information on the local flora, fauna and heritage. This building was once part of the blast furnace of the ironworks (1846), which remained in operation until 1932. Today it houses a modern cultural centre with an exhibition on the history of the site.
For those with a passion for making objects, the Pause Art workshop offers ceramic painting workshops for young and old alike. We can't talk about Steinfort without mentioning the Kleinbettingen Mill, one of the most modern wheat mills in Europe.
Finally, for food lovers, Steinfort has several restaurants, two of which are listed in the Michelin guide, An de Villa and Apdikt, as well as a traditional chocolate factory, Genaveh, which produces very high quality chocolates from its workshop in the Rue de Koerich.
