De Zuidas, Amsterdam's financial district

The De Zuidas area, the business and financial heart of the Amsterdam, has a strategic position within easy reach of Amsterdam city centre, Schiphol Airport, Station Rai, and Station Zuid. Many Dutch and international companies and organisations have already found their way to this part of the Netherlands. Thanks to its central location, the business centre has fast become a popular place to rent offices, making it the business district of Amsterdam. De Zuidas continues to grow and more space is created for housing, shops, cafés and restaurants, schools, hotels, and even sports facilities.

Growing housing supply

The metropolitan area De Zuidas connects the neighbourhoods Buitenveldert and Oud-Zuid to become the larger borough Amsterdam Zuid. The current population is around 3,000 and this number is growing rapidly. The planning for the longer term is to provide housing for about 15,000 people by 2040, consisting of a varied housing supply. Apart from social housing, there is room for student housing and a certain number of rental and owner-occupied apartments. The number of residences, which currently stands at 2,300, will increase to 7,000 by 2030.
