Parade, masks & Lots of fun
Around 1000 children will experience the Carnival festivities in a different way this year. A big parade is planned for the 24th of February that will certainly liven up the streets of the historic Center in Lagos.
Also on the 24th, starting at 9.30 pm, we highlight the event, taking place at the Clube Artístico Lacobrigense – the BallRoom Galas, with the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, a Formal Ball – to dance or simply listen to good music – Not to be missed !
There are several theories about the origin of Carnival, but the reason for these festivities remains unknown. It is known, however, that it arrived in Portugal in 1252, thanks to a document signed by the King Afonso III. Initially known as Entrudo – which means “entrance” – it referred to celebrations of the religious calendar and was always marked by the popular spontaneity that took the people to the streets throwing water and eggs at each other... Parades, masks and lots of rollick are some of the characteristics of these festivities.
