Two bee colonies set up home at our headquarters last week. From up on our rooftop, some 100,000 bees will travel up to a radius of three kilometres to collect pollen and nectar. This will then be made into honey with the help and supervision of our expert beekeepers. Be curious to see what we are going to do with it!
Honey is just a by-product of this wonderful initiative though. The primary aim is concerned with the most important issues of our time: environmental protection and sustainability.
“Bees play a crucial role in our global ecosystem and are absolutely essential for biodiversity. Collaborating with Place4Bees, we want to create a habitat where local honey bees can thrive and make a sustainable contribution to environmental protection this way,” says Global CEO Sven Odia.
As well as being essential to people and the planet, bees are also highly endangered in Germany. The new bee colonies on top of our building not only create an awareness and appreciation for these insects – they also give all colleagues here at headquarters a valuable insight into the world of bees. This is very important considering just how drastic the decline in the bee population has been. According to the German Beekeepers’ Association, the number of bee colonies has dropped from 2.5 million in 1952 to less than a million in 2022.
