Vermutlich weil sich ein Leuchtturm in der Region befand, oder der Tempel des Apollo „Phanaeus“ hier stand. Aufgrund einer Initiative der Dorfbewohner wurden im Frühjahr 2011 mehrere Häuser des Dorfes kunstvoll dekoriert und bemalt. Diese Aktion verlieh dem Dorf den Titel „Das Dorf der Farben“ und die zahlreichen Besucher tauchten ein in eine herrliche Märchenwelt. Das Dorf Soroni ist unweit von der Kapelle des Hl. Soulas entfernt und stellt mit seiner Lage mitten im Wald  ein wunderschönes Ausflugsziel dar. Die gemütlichen Strandtavernen mit guten Speisen und frischem Fisch, sowie das angenehme kühle Klima sorgen für ganzjährige Gäste.

Λέγεται ότι το όνομα Φάνες προέρχεται από τη λέξη λυχνάρι (φανός αρχ.ονομ.), καθώς στην περιοχή αυτή βρισκόταν ο φάρος ή επειδή ήταν η περιοχή του Ναού του Φαναίου Απόλλωνα. Η Σορώνη βρίσκεται κοντά στον Άγιο Σουλά, ένα εκκλησάκι μέσα σε μεγάλη έκταση δάσους ,με ένα εστιατόριο, ένα γήπεδο τένις και μια παιδική χαρά.
