House of the Commendation

This magnificent Casa Palacio is a unique architectural ensemble with a lot of history. 

It retains its large and thick stone walls and its unpolluted exterior appearance. 

Throughout the different generations, this Casa de la Encomienda has been expanding and keeping in use. 

It consists of more than 30 rooms and several buildings in its immense plot located next to the Church. 

The main building of square shape and of two heights, has splendid galleries oriented to the interior courtyard of the house. Within the same building, the ground floor houses the housing of the guards and various other units. The upper part accessed by an impressive marble staircase was used for bedrooms and main rooms, such as dining room, library, office and living rooms. To this building, we must add the other additions with an original use for agricultural work and currently admit other types of uses. 

The impressive barn with the handcrafted roofs, the oil press warehouse, the impressive cellar located underground in the shape of a cave or the grain warehouse and the immensely high food and handcrafted roof. 

This magnificent property, apart from segregatable. It can be used for various purposes such as hunting lodge, rural house, hotel or for events and ceremonies.

Next to the Church, appears the House of Mendoza, which was the House of Encomienda that the Order of Santiago and its commanders had in the town. The building brings its importance of the different residents that it had and of the imprint that they left in it, because they were making multiple extensions, imposing their tastes and ideas, until the current building.

The large house solariego currently grouping agricultural units and housing around a huge courtyard. The main areas have two floors organized in a coherent way: leaving the service pieces on the ground floor and the residential ones on the second floor facing the public square, five rooms that are currently preserved. Among them we could highlight the guest room, where among the many personalities stayed Santa Teresa de Jesus.

The set has two large access covers of large voussoirs with coats of arms on the key, one of which belongs to Antonio de Mendoza, viceroy of Mexico and Peru, who was also the one who undertook the main reform of the house in 1524. Don Antonio de Mendoza introduced the Renaissance ideas inherited from his father, the previous commander Don Íñigo. A proof of this is the staircase at the end of the corridor and the pillars and capitals with Ionic volutes.

The Marqués de Aguilar and the current owners, the gentlemen Lodares, hidalgos in Socuéllamos since the 18th century, completed the reforms of the house building new stairs and new dependencies.
