Campolide was once a good farming land, where there were several farms. The hillside was covered with olive groves, orchards, and vineyards. Currently, these hills "hide" a calm and safe neighborhood, with houses mostly from the 1970s. Almost the entire neighborhood is made up of buildings, but there is a very interesting area (the Calçada dos Mestres neighborhood) overlooking the Águas Livres Aqueduct, where we find semi-detached houses with gardens. Here live young people, the elderly, and families. There is the movement of those who leave in the morning and return at night, but also of those who live here during the day: for a trip to the local grocery store, or to Amoreiras for other types of shopping. Most of the commerce is concentrated in this center, which was the largest in the city a few years ago. Despite being a quiet neighborhood, all the traffic from the Center passes through here and moves either to the South or to the Cascais line (and vice versa in the morning). And whoever takes this route will encounter the Águas Livres Aqueduct, an emblematic and grandiose work of Lisbon from the 18th century, a complex system of water collection and distribution for the city. A must-visit for those who don't know it. It is important to mention the presence of the New University of Lisbon, an attraction pole for young people to the area, which has consequently helped to develop commerce and services.
