Alhaurín el Grande is located in the southern part of the province of Málaga, halfway up the hills between Málaga and Marbella. It is the southernmost municipality in the Valle del Guadalhorce county. Its municipal area covers 73.1 km². It stretches from the northern slopes of the Sierra de Mijas mountain range, where the main town is located, to the valley of the River Guadalhorce and the village of Villafranco del Guadalhorce.
