Plaza de Manuel Becerra is a square in the Salamanca district of Madrid. Alcalá Street, which crosses it diagonally, Francisco Silvela Street to the north, Doctor Esquerdo Street to the south, Don Ramón de la Cruz and Doctor Gómez Ulla Streets to the west and northeast, respectively. Formerly known as Plaza de la Alegría 23 and since 1951 it has been named after the nineteenth-century mathematician and politician Manuel Becerra. It also converges four neighborhoods of this district, Lista, Goya, Fuente del Berro and La Guindalera. For more than a century it has been the meeting point of visitors and fans of the bullfight due to its proximity to the Plaza de Las Ventas. To one side of the square, close by the facilities and municipal services of the Eva Perón Park (where one of the four fountains of the Delights of the eighteenth century is preserved) is the renovated Church of Nuestra Señora de Covadonga.
