Interview with Mario Volpi - Sales Manager at Engel & Völkers Dubai

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your professional background.​

I came to Dubai in the summer of 2008 after a 24 year real estate career in London. During my last 12 years here in Dubai, I have developed in to a go to real estate person and as such regularly appear on radio and TV, commenting about current real estate topics. I have been a columnist for the National newspaper for the last eight years giving property advice to the general public. I am a mad Chelsea football fan and the father of three. My side hustle is collecting and selling current and vintage American comics.

What made you decide on joining the Real Estate industry?

I sort of fell into real estate after finishing my studies. I beat 12 other candidates for a sales job advertised and never looked back. I had a knack of sales derived from my first job selling fruit and vegetables from a traditional grocery store in London.

What is your favorite moment in Engel & Völkers?

I have two favourite moments at E&V. The first is when I was given the best manager award in my first year and the second was receiving the same award as voted for by the staff in my second year!

What is that one piece of advice you would give to your colleagues during the times of this pandemic?

When the market shifts, it is vital to remain ahead of your competition. It is usually impossible to make anyone buy during these challenging times so the key is to put yourself into the box seat for when the market does come back, and it will. By this I mean list as many properties at market price or under as possible.
