Antwerp, a city of choice for investors

Dynamic, delightful and developing, Antwerp is an ideal city for a real estate investment. Take a closer look at this Belgian city with its population of almost 500,000 a wealth of assets ...

Antwerp: an up-and-coming city

More and more people are selling their homes in the countryside to buy an apartment or a house in an urban environment. For all generations, Antwerp remains a place that benefits from many advantages. This municipality is one of the few in Belgium to offer such a huge range of options when it comes to housing and professional opportunities. The many commercial or residential projects that have been developed there in recent years have also enabled significant enhancement of certain districts of Antwerp.

This city is therefore of increasing interest to investors. Various development projects, such as the Luchtbalstation, Diamant district, Spoor Noord and Het Dokske, are currently in progress. Like the Ringland, many citizens' initiatives have been set up in the town to preserve its natural environment.

Why invest in Antwerp?

Antwerp has many advantages that make it a city of choice for property investors. First and foremost, it benefits from a major public transport network, as well as being home to many companies (national and international), as well as several schools and universities. Antwerp also has many squares, cafés, restaurants, as well as a number of shopping centres. The city also has several parks, museums and historical monuments such as Notre-Dame Cathedral, the town hall, the royal palace of Meir, the Steen and even Antwerp-Central station.

The Port of Antwerp, which is the second largest commercial port in Europe, continues to be extended with projects such as the Blue Gate Antwerp industrial park. The city is also home to many expatriates who constitute an important source of potential tenants for investors wishing to let properties. Finally, Antwerp is well positioned in terms of its gross rental yield: around 4.5%, which is an attractive return.

A Belgian municipality in full expansion

Real estate specialists anticipate a strong demographic increase in Melgium's major cities in the coming years. People living in these municipalities are wanting more and more amenities to be available to them (schools, public transport, shops, parks, etc.) close to their homes. The big cities will be the only ones able to meet these requirements in future, which will lead many Belgian citizens to opt for an urban life.  It therefore goes without saying that large cities are favourable places for investors. In Belgium, Antwerp is currently the metropolis with the largest number of real estate investments. Just behind it is Brussels, followed by the cities of Ghent, Mechelen and, finally, Ostend in fifth place.
