Malcantone

The Malcantone region stretches over approximately 76 square kilometers on the southwest side of Lake Lugano. Thanks to the sunny and sheltered position the area enjoys a Mediterranean climate and wonderfully clean air, making it one of the most relaxing areas in southern Switzerland. The region offers a wide range midst of the picturesque landscape: romantic villages in the mountains, rural rustico, magnificent lakeside estates, or even urban architecture. A highlight are the rustic grotti and osterie, in which the residents and tourists come together with hearty local food and a glass of good wine.

The Malcantone region consists of approx. 20 villages in different hights (approx. 270-1.630m a.s.l.) - each with its own individual flair. The region is divided into the following three zones:

 Lugano
- In den Gassen von Caslano

Lower Malcantone (Agno, Bioggio, Caslano, Magliaso, Neggio, Ponte Tresa, Vernate)

This part of the Malcantone is characterized by its proximity to the lake with its beaches and campsites, as well as the good infrastructure. For more than 100 years, the Ponte Tresa train has connected the city centre of Lugano across the Malcantone with Italy.

The area is filled with green areas and offers a variety of sportive activities: tennis, stand-up paddling, rowing, sailing or fishing - there is something for everyone! Golfers truely enjoy the Golf Club of Lugano Magliaso, which is the oldest of Ticino offering 18 holes and is fully responsive to the needs of modern golfers, whether experienced players or beginners.

In the western part the area borders on Italy. The "Tresa" river crossing the municipality of Ponte Tresa represents the Italian-Swiss border. North of the famous Monte Sassalto, which is rich in vegetation, lies Caslano on a flat plateau directly on the shores of the lake. It is known as an oasis of peace and has a historic center with romantic streets and a fishing as well as a chocolate museum.

 Lugano
- Caslano

Middle Malcantone (Astano, Bedigliora, Croglio, Curio, Monteggio, Novaggio, Pura, Sessa)

At mid-altitude a large number of villas are located along the slope, often built in typical Ticino style offering a fantastic view of the lake. The Museo del Malcantone in Curio shows a collection of numerous documents on culture and history of the Malcantone; the Laghetto near Astano invites you to go swimming or fishing. As a starting point of many hiking trails the area is rich in historical buildings and art monuments.

 Lugano
- Monte Lema Hiking Wandern Natur Malcantone

Upper Malcantone (Aranno, Alto Malcantone, Cademario, Miglieglia)

Monte Lema is with its height of 1.630m a landmark of the region and a popular destination for hiking and mountain biking tours. A cable car leads to the peak from where you can enjoy a spectacular view. A more than 80 km long hiking trail connects the villages of the agricultural region along glistening lakes. In the evening you can observe stars, planets and galaxies from the observatory of Monte Lema. The large meadow in front of it is a popular meeting place for model flying enthusiasts as well as paragliders - the epitome of freedom.

From the highest point on Monte Lema to the lush lawns on the shores of the lake, the Malcantone offers a serene atmosphere and world-class quality of living - making it ideal for your real estate sales.
