Monte Brè

Monte Brè (933 m a.s.l.) is Lugano's local mountain, which is located in the east of the city and enchants with breathtaking scenery, hiking as well as mountain bike trails and romantic hillside villages.

From Cassarate, a funicular goes past the villages of Suvigliana, Aldesago and Brè to the summit of the sunniest mountain of Switzerland. From there you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view over Lugano, the lake and the Alps. The mountain is the ideal destination for nature lovers, as it is the starting point for many trails in the midst of the beautiful nature. Art lovers will enjoy the picturesque village of Brè, which can be reached from the mountain station in a 15-20 minutes walk and impresses besides its typical charm also with many works of art that have once been created by local artists.

Urban life in Cassarate

Cassarate is located just behind the river of the same name, only a few steps from the centre of Lugano. There are many students in this part of the city, studying at the renowned Università della Svizzera italiana. Schools, as well as numerous shops, restaurants and supermarkets are situated here as well. Active people will find joy on the tennis courts or in the Lido. If you cross the wonderful green lung of the city, the Parco Civico, which is located just next to these facilities, you are right in the heart of Lugano.

The romantic fishing village Gandria

The so-called Sentiero di Gandria at the foot of Monte Brè leads along the lake shore to the picturesque fishing village of Gandria. The last village in front of the Italian border is characterized by narrow streets and historic houses decorated with stucco and frescoes. Until the 1930s, when the access road was built one could reach the place only by the waterway or ponderous across the steep cliffs. Even today, many visitors still visit the place by boat.

Real estate on the sunniest mountain in Switzerland

While many farmers once cultivated the mountain, the image of the mountain changed. Today it is a sought-after residential and holiday area, which is particularly known for its great sun exposure. In addition to magnificent villas with panoramic views, the real estate market also features buildings from the 60s and 70s, which can be purchased at interesting prices. In addition to the optimal sunlight, the mountain is particularly attractive due to its excellent connection to public transport: every 15 minutes a bus departs to the centre. The perfect combination of proximity to the city and relaxation ensures that the Monte Brè is very popular as a holiday retreat.
