The Barcelona Motor Show has come of age in the digital era. This type of technology has already been used in other important fairs in the city such as the Mobile World Congress and the Smart City Expo.
Once again at this fair's edition, the auto industry will play an important role with as many as 30 well-known car brands invited. Volkswagen has been excused from participating for domestic reasons. However, one of the subsidiaries of this German company will participate in Spain. Seat and Toyota, who return to the event after being absent from the last edition are also expected to attend.
A fresh start for a consolidated fair
Enrique Lacalle, the president of the Barcelona Motor Show, has presented this year's edition, which will take place between 11th and 21st May, at the Fira de Montjuïc.
It should be remembered that Enrique Lacalle was also the organiser of Barcelona Meeting Point, where the company, Engel & Völkers, was the "leading sponsor".
The excellent figures in vehicle registration and exports have been highlighted, which have increased in the month of March by around 12.6%. With all this positivity, the economic environment at this year's fair is perfect.

What's new in 2017
The important news this year features the new "Automobile Barcelona" which will incorporate the participation of technology companies and some startup companies, with news about electric cars and self-driving vehicles. One of the major issues to address is researching the car of the future.
Another important innovation is what has been called "Connected Hub". This is a place that will become a meeting point for major technology companies and the emerging companies. This allows people to explore the combination of the digital world and the automobile's potential.
Among the leading companies invited to the fair is Google, which will attend through its brand Waze plus there will be IBM, Facebook, Oracle and Ericsson, among many others. The participation of Tesla, the company that manufactures electric cars, will also be expected.
Lectures and tests
The much anticipated "Automobile Barcelona" technology show will include 70 experts from different companies giving lectures at the fair. In addition, people attending the fair will have the opportunity to test the new electric cars or the self-driving ones using virtual reality or by driving around on the congress palace's surrounding streets.
Since the announcement of this fair, the number of vehicles for the exhibition have exceeded expectation. With regards to the public attendance, it is expected to exceed the 650,000 people who visited the fair back in 2015 (remember that this event is held every two years).
