Barcelona, March 20th, 2018. Torre Gloriès will soon have tenants moving in. Engel & Völkers has brokered the first rental operation of the symbolic tower in Barcelona. Competence Call Center (CCC), one of the main European services suppliers, is the company that has rented the 9,000 sqm distributed on eight floors from the skyscraper property of Merlin Properties, advised, on the other hand, by Savills Aguirre Newman and CBRE.
"The project, which has been developed in approximately three months, is especially relevant for having completed at a difficult juncture for the market of rental offices in Barcelona after 1-O ", says Alberto Sarrias, CEO of Engel & Völkers Commercial for Spain, Portugal and Andorra. In addition, "this project proves the fact that Barcelona continues to be one of the most attractive cities in Europe for large companies on the international scene," Sarrias adds.
An iconic skyscraper
The Glories Tower is one of the most emblematic skyscrapers in the city of Barcelona. Located in the confluence of Avenida Diagonal and Plaza de Les Glories, the building is located in the heart of the technological district of Barcelona known as 22 @. With 142 metres in height, it is the third tallest building in the city.
The tower was designed by the reputable and prestigious architects, Jean Nouvel and Fermín Vázquez. It was inaugurated in the year 2005 and has a total area of 37,614 square metres, distributed on 34 floors above the ground and seating capacity for more than 350 people in the auditorium. Additionally, the building has four parking floors with 300 units. In total, the property has 51,485 square metres of space.
Merlin purchased the old Agbar tower in January 2017. Conceived as a multi-tenancy, the building is to be primarily used as offices.
Following the discarding of Barcelona as the headquarters of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the failed attempt to set up a hotel, the iconic skyscraper is in the process of undergoing renovation by the property owner. Empty since the summer of 2015, when Agbar moved to the Free Trade Zone, "the efforts have been coordinated so that the client can carry out his own works on the building in order for the premises to be completely up and running by May 1st, 2018," says Alberto Sarrias.
District 22 @ is the main area of the Barcelona office market in terms of growth and development, having consolidated as the main attraction for international and well-known innovative firms, such as Cisco, Ebay, Yahoo, Deutsche Telekom, Sage, SAP, Capgemini o Indra.
Large rental operations by Engel & Völkers
When considering this second quarter of rental projects in the commercial sector, it can be confirmed that Engel & Völkers has completed a great second year after brokering more than 200 projects and doubling its turnover from 2016.
