Country houses for sale in Majorca are many and varied, either in rural locations or not too far from the sea, and the majority are built in the enchanting, traditional style of the island, possessing fabulous, inviting terraces more often than not offering wonderful views.
For a Majorcan, their ‘finca’, their piece of acreage, is their pride and joy, it is there that they spend their weekends and summers. It is their great escape from everyday life. Relaxing, tending their fruit trees, their vegetable garden and the few animals they might keep there, such as; rabbits, chickens or even donkey or pig. At the weekend the ‘finca’ becomes THE meeting place, the heart and the soul of all the family. All of them, close and not so close, getting together; laughing, catching up, working together and preparing a succulent lunch, be it paella, arròs brut or a traditional roast etc…
In the meantime the children get to play happily or swim within a constructed, open water deposit known as a ‘safareig’, also used for watering the land but especially used for swimming in the summer.
Life on the ‘finca’ might be simple but it does not get better. If you visit the island often, you should at some point get to know a local.
If you are lucky enough to be invited to their ‘finca’, you will only then have a vision of how their lives really are, their culture and their customs, and where family is still all important.
