The best of each district in Valencia: Eixample

It is always a real treat to travel to the city of light and colour, Valencia, and stroll through its streets, during the day or night, visiting restaurants, shopping, etc. And what better way to start your trip from the Eixample district.

Eixample of Valencia is situated between the old city of Ciutat Vella, with Quatre Carreres on the south, the west and east Extramuros Pla del Real. It is made up of three districts: El Pla del Remei, Gran Vía and Ruzafa.

In the Eixample district you can find many stately buildings, palaces and modern structures. The main highlights include:

La Casa de los Dragones (House of the Dragons): - is an important landmark with a unique style and a great example of eclectic architecture.

El Mercado de Colón Colón Market: - a modern building which opened on Christmas Eve 1916. Today it is a large shopping and entertainment centre. Declared a National Monument as it's in a protected area.

Casa Ortega: Modernist style house with an interesting facade and numerous human, flowers, and animal shaped sculptures.

Basílica de San Vicente Ferrer: This neo-gothic church emphasises its facade through the large Bohemian glass windows, depicting the life of San Vincente Ferrer.

L'Eixample neighbourhoods

Ruzafa neighbourhood used to be a playground and gardens that belonged to Muslim monarchs Taifa of Balansiya in the tenth and thirteenth centuries. Its main streets are: Matias Perello, Avenida Antic Regne de Valencia, Gran Vía Germanías, Filipinas Street, and General San Martín.

El Pla del Remei neighbourhood is one of the most exclusive areas of Valencia, starting from Colón Street, Gran Via Marqués de Turia Ruzafa street, all the way to Turia Gardens (Jardines del Turia). It is well known for its large number of exclusive shops and department stores. This is the neighbourhood in which you can find Mercado de Colón.

Gran Vía neighbourhood construction began in 1868 after the medieval city walls were destroyed. Its main streets are Conde Altea, Salamanca Street, Plaza Canovas del Castillo, and Jacinto Benavente Street.

Restaurants in Eixample

There is nothing better than visiting the countless architecture gems in the Eixample district where you can stop, rest and eat something. The gastronomic offer is extensive: tapas, Mediterranean, Thai, Mexican, Japanese, etc.

We recommend:

The Rías Gallegasis Bar is located in 4 Cirilo Amoros Street. The cuisine consists of the best Galician seafood and an extensive range of Galician wines.

Entrevins- You can find this restaurant in 3 Reina Doña María Street. It has one of the best wineries in Valencia. You can choose from meat, fish, salads, etc.

Sorsi e Morsi Cánovas- Mediterranean and Italian cuisine, its dishes are prepared with seasonal products of excellent quality. It is located in 22 Conde Altea Street.

Taperia La Pepa is located in 14 Carrer de Salamanca, in the neighbourhood of La Gran Vía. The cuisine is Mediterranean, mainly known for its tapas.

Ché Baires Restaurant- Argentinean grill, specialists in grilled meats, and the famous Argentine dulce de leche. Good atmosphere, and excellent service. It is located in 10 Reina Na Germana Street.

Shopping areas and businesses in Eixample

Colon street has shops of all kinds, especially fashion and accessories with the best international brands and the latest trends. It is one of the most visited places in the city. In the Ruzafa district, you can enjoy its colourful buildings and neighbourhood stores, where you can recreate a traditional style.

You can also find phone shops, real estate agencies, computer and electronics retailers, handicrafts, souvenirs, decorations, etc.

If you are traveling with children

If you are traveling with children, the offerings for them are aplenty: theatre, cinema, cooking workshops, outdoor activities, bike routes, etc. At lunchtime you may not always find the ideal place, or the place you find is not suitable for children. All kids want is to have fun, and in Eixample district, this is certainly possible. For example, it is a very good idea to visit the Mercado de Colón, or any restaurant, bar and cafe in Eixample district where children can enjoy a delicious veggie burger, a sandwich, pizza, etc. Delicious ice cream for dessert or a Valencian horchata.

Zonas para salir de noche en el Eixample

Ruzafa neighbourhood is one of the new entertainment areas of the city, with the most innovative restaurants. In bars and entertainment venues, different music cultures merge. Enjoy jazz, rock, alternative music, indie, electronic music, etc.

You can enjoy a coffee at the Café-Teatro or visit a tearoom, disco, etc. Or just sit in a quiet cafe and watch your life go by.

A great way to enjoy Eixample all year round is to rent or buy a home. Engel & Völkers real estate in Valencia have the best properties in this district. Contact us today!
