Autumn flavors of Tuscany

Truffle mushrooms, olive oil, wine and chestnuts are the main characters of fairs and festivals in Tuscany Maremma

Autumn is here as days get shorter, the temperature drops, trees change their colors and new scents and flavors tickle our mouths with autumn food.

There are many festivals and fairs dedicated to typical local products, such as chestnuts, olive oil and truffles. For food and wine lovers, Tuscany offers many food and wine festivals located in the most beautiful medieval towns and hamlets in Tuscany.

These festivals usually take place at the end of the summer and beginning of autumn, when new colors and leaves that fall from the trees create a magical atmosphere..

Chestnuts

October is the month of chestnuts, a product that Tuscany is very proud of!

Chestnuts have high nutritional properties and are the main protagonist of numerous culinary and traditional events that take place all over Tuscany.

The chestnut festival in Arcidosso in Monte Amiata, called "La Castagna in Festa", is extremely loved by locals.

Mushrooms

When we talk about chestnuts and chestnuts, therefore, you think of mushrooms (porcini in particular). Porcini mushrooms are delicious and typical products of the months of September and October and perfect in food combination with polenta, meat sauce or stewed wild boar sauce.

Let's not forget the truffle mushrooms... a product that clearly divides many people: either you love it, or you hate it!

Tuscany is strongly linked to this particular and highly prized mushroom whose typical variety is the white one.

Olive Oil

Virgin Olive Oil is newly produced in November and December.

This is the perfect time to taste the famous fettunta: a slice of dull Tuscan bread, toasted and seasoned with garlic and olive oil.

It is no coincidence that the hamlet of Batignano organizes every year the Olive Oil Festival. Here it is possible to taste bruschetta, zonzelle, crogetti and other local delicacies.

Civitella Marittima also organises the “Festa del Buco Unto” where newly produced wine is tasted together with the new olive oil.As you might well know, the fettunta is better if accompanied by a good glass of red wine!

The wine

Last but not least is Tuscan wine!

Tuscany is well known as the land of wine. Wine festivals in Tuscany are almost everywhere and are almost always combined with typical local products, such as cured meats, cheeses and various meats.

Wine harvest begins in September, for the occasion many places open their cellars and organize festivals, allowing anyone not only to taste and buy the finest wines, but also to attend the harvest and walk in the vineyards.

In Sorano, in Tuscany Maremma, the local wine has been celebrated for some years now, along with the Pitigliano white wine and the Morellino di Scansano red wine.
