Lake Maggiore is a world-known tourist destination for every season. With its wonderful nature and various attractions, Lake Maggiore is getting ready to host the funniest event of the year, that is Carnival. There will be many events and activities, perfect for every type of person: from the local visitors, to the tourists and sport lovers.
Carnival will start on February 19th in Stresa, where a parade for children will take place in the morning. At the end, the best masks will be rewarded. In Levo, Carnival will start from lunch, with polenta, salami, cheese and a lot of confetti of course. During the day, visitors will have the chance to enjoy the beauty of the landscape, the wonderful Borromean Islands and visit the museums and art galleries in the area.
In February, Lake Maggiore also offers a dive into cold water. The traditional winter “cimento” takes place in Cannobio and Arona. People just wear their bathing suits and swim in the lake.
If you love running, you can take part in the 25th edition of the two-lake half-marathon, which will take place on the 5th of March 2023. A day dedicated to sport and health, where the runners will have the chance to run while enjoying a wonderful landscape between Lake Maggiore and Mergozzo. There are different running paths, perfect for all levels of athlete.
During Carnival, it is also possible to walk or cycle on the beautiful routes around Verbano. Among the most popular destinations we find those between Arona and Stresa and Mount Mottarone. Every occasion and every season are good to admire these masterpieces of nature and history of Lake Maggiore.
Parades, fancy dress parties, games, musical performances, markets and, of course, the traditional candies and confetti. During Carnival, many villages in the area will have food stands offering regional specialities and drinks. Another opportunity not to be missed to enjoy a unique experience on Lake Maggiore.
