This is one of the most loved décor styles. An attractive blend where rustic and antiqued rhymes with elegance, where shapes are rounded, where soft and bright colours become the protagonists. It is the shabby chic style: perfect union between romance and elegance.
This is the ideal furniture that finds its maximum fulfilment in our historical Lago Maggiore villas. The reason? Simple, it is a style capable of enhancing the natural colours of the Lake and its country but at the same time refined atmospheres.
Shabby chic literally means "elegantly scruffy", and appears for the first time in 1980 in a British interior design magazine. This style was born in England and describe the typical English country cottages. But surely, we can trace many other influences: from the French atmospheres of the Loire Valley castles (but also of the Provençal villas), to the design of the American shakers.
If you wish to furnish your luxury villas Lake Maggiore in a shabby chic style, you need to have in mind the most peculiar aspects of this décor, and then personalize them in any environment. Starting with the materials: wood is the great protagonist, but almost never in its natural colouring, rather pickled in white, or in a very soft colour. Everything must have a characteristic used effect, as if it had just been recovered from the grandmother's attic, with some signs of wear. An ancient effect which, however, must never become antiques.
Fabrics, frills and furnishings also help to create the perfect shabby chick combination. So green light to light fabrics with floral patterns, as wall as for linen curtains and precious lace. An overall brightness wraps everything: light must be natural, warm and welcoming. The large windows of your country house at Lago Maggiore will give a unique atmosphere.
If the kitchen is the heart of every home, the shabby chic style suits perfectly with this space. Wall units in pickled white wood, perhaps combined with slightly retro ceramic tiles or a nice parquet, are essential to obtain the desired effect. A beautiful wooden sideboard should not be missing, better if glazed to show inside vintage-style plates and glasses. And then a lovely pickled wooden table with decorated legs.
Moving on to the living room, we find ourselves in a space where you can accentuate the roundness of the shapes, and give space to style furnishings. The main protagonist will be a beautiful sofa with rounded armrests, in warm soft-coloured fabric (light grey, for example, in order to highlight white and pink cushions). To embellish this room, we can use lanterns and candelabras, a retro chandelier, or maybe an important wooden wall clock with Roman numbers.
If in the bedroom a nice wrought iron bed (so chic and at the same time "light") is a must, in the bathroom you can indulge yourself. Why not use a white pickled wooden staircase as a towel rack, or give space to a sinuously shaped bathtub, perhaps with feet?
Last but not least, the shabby chic style can also be applied to the garden décor of your historical Lago Maggiore villa. Again, a mix of wrought iron and wood is playing the most important role in the garden décor. A few old lanterns will make everything more romantic and will be a perfect invitation to spend beautiful evenings in the open air, fully enjoying the exclusive atmosphere of the Lake.
Have you already chosen your dreamy villa Lago Maggiore? If the shabby chic style is the right one for you, you just have to develop our advice.
Have fun!
