As a rule of thumb, start at the top and work down:
- get a roofing contractor in to check for any issues, which could include cracked tiles, movement, damaged valley lining, incomplete chimney seals.
- check that all solar panels are clean and safely secured to protect from storm damage.
- deep clean gutters and downpipes from debris, which will prevent flooding and roof damage into soffits.
- do a chimney sweep, ready for winter fire burning
- check all window and door openings. Check seals, hinges and hardware, eg handles. Replace any seals or brushing that have been damaged water damage.
- repair any wall cracks, seal them and paint over
In gardens, trim back dead and loose or overhanging branches to prevent roof and electric fence damage in storms.
Service and test alarms and make sure sensors are free of the bugs that love to hide in them!
Clean and cover pools.
Finally, don’t forget to turn off warm devices like DSTV decoders when they are not in use, to prevent the formation of bugs nests.
