Queijas: Location and surroundings of this property

Queijas is a mainly residential area with its own shops and essential services. Its proximity to Lisbon and the beaches of the Estoril coastline make it a pleasant place to live, just a few minutes from the capital. QUEIJAS, once known as QUEJAS, an apparently unique name in Portuguese toponymy, said to be related to pre-Roman peoples, has, as far as we know, no recognised elements that tell us the real reason for its name, nor since when it existed. It is known, however, that in 1865 Queijas had 35 dwellings and 148 inhabitants and that this population was essentially dedicated to farming and pastoralism. These records show the excellent natural conditions regarding the quality of the soil for agricultural production. This may justify the historical importance that Queijas had in rural production and pastoralism, which according to the same records, supplied a large part of the area of present-day Lisbon. Initially made up of a few farms and houses, today it is a neighbourhood in rapid expansion and development.
