Located in the heart of El Sardinero in Santander, very close to the beaches, parks and sports fields of Real Racing Club. Connected to the city center by public transport and to the rest of the province via the S-20 and motorways linking to Asturias, Madrid and Bilbao. Ten minutes from the Port of Santander and the airport, with national and international connections. El Sardinero is a neighborhood and also a tourist enclave of the city of Santander (Cantabria, Spain), known for its extensive beaches and for being one of the city’s most exclusive areas. In a broad sense, El Sardinero is understood as the coastal area between the Magdalena Peninsula and the Mataleñas area, forming the bay that bears its name. In a strict sense, the center of this area would be Piazza d’Italia and the surrounding area. It owes its name to the fact that in the past there was, off its beaches, a fishing ground where sardine fishing was common. El Sardinero began to become known and widely visited from the mid-19th century and especially at the beginning of the 20th century. The fashion for summer holidays and the health benefits of wave bathing attracted many visitors from the Castilian bourgeoisie. Little by little, El Sardinero changed from a place visited only by Santander residents into a spa town, with all the services to offer a wealthy society drawn by Santander’s economic boom, driven by trade with the Spanish colonies. Based on the historical and functional evolution of this area, two urban morphologies can be distinguished: that of the ensemble formed by the villas and small palaces built from the late 19th century, and that of the modern blocks of primary or secondary residences of recent decades.
