The town was founded in the eighteenth century under the rule of Charles III and was established as a municipality in the nineteenth century with its first mayor. It was split off from Escorial, where Philip II built the Escorial Monastery at the end of the 16th century and, annexing neighboring estates, founded the royal site of the same name.
