Marratxí is an increasingly popular area in Mallorca, located less than 20 km north of Palma. More than 37,000 people live in the villages of Pont d'Inca, Pla de na Tesa, Sa Cabaneta and Pòrtol. The relatively affluent Marratxí attracts locals looking for a larger and quieter home than they might find in Palma. The area is known for its pottery, with terracotta pots, plates and other everyday items, and each year celebrates the Fira del Fang, where craftsmanship and local gastronomy come together. The classic siurells are a symbol of Mallorcan tradition, as are the shopping centres located here. Marratxí offers its residents the services and amenities of a large city, but unlike Palma there is no sign of mass tourism. You can find residential areas very close to Palma that still offer privacy and tranquillity, with villas, beautiful gardens and swimming pools. It is also home to one of the largest shopping centres, Mallorca Fashion Outlet, which offers numerous leisure activities, clothing stores, restaurants and a cinema. In addition, the Marratxinet urbanisation has one of Mallorca’s largest padel tennis facilities—Open Marratxí. The municipality is ideal for families, as it has several schools, including two international ones, offers a wide range of sporting activities for all ages, and is only 10 minutes from the airport and less than 10 minutes from the capital, Palma.
