Lloret de Mar is a Spanish municipality in the comarca of La Selva, in the province of Girona, located by the sea on the Costa Brava. It has excellent beaches of coarse sand.
It also offers magnificent views of the castle at one end and, at the other, the monument to “La Dona Marinera,” which represents the suffering of women waiting for the return of their fisherman husbands. Coastal Mediterranean climate, with temperatures always much milder due to the sea’s moderating thermal effect. Even so, it should be borne in mind that the Mediterranean is a warm sea all year round, so the temperature-softening effect that characterizes it is more noticeable in winter than in summer. The summer drought typical of this climate usually lasts three months, and the highest rainfall is concentrated in autumn.
The town’s present-day center was formed in the 15th century around the beach. The marina of Canyelles is Lloret de Mar’s only yacht harbor, located on Canyelles Beach, where medium-sized boats can be moored. The nearest airports are Girona–Costa Brava, 30 km away, and Barcelona, 75 km away. Girona Airport connects Lloret de Mar with a good number of European cities and also has significant charter-flight traffic.
