El Arenal, a former fishing village that has become a popular tourist area, is located to the east of the bay of Palma. Its splendid beach is more than 4 km long and its promenade stretches all the way to the capital. It has a wide range of bars, cafés, restaurants, small shops and discotheques. The Club Náutico del Arenal is one of the most famous on the island; the annual Regata S.A.R. Princesa Sofía is held here in March. It offers numerous possibilities for water sports and has a sailing school. Palma is only about 15 minutes away by car and the airport about 10 minutes.
