Lloret de Mar is a Spanish municipality in the La Selva district, in the province of Girona, located by the sea on the Costa Brava. It has excellent beaches of coarse sand. It also offers magnificent views of the castle at one end and, at the other, the monument to “La Dona Marinera,” which represents the suffering of women waiting for the return of their fisherman husbands. Coastal Mediterranean climate, with temperatures always much milder due to the sea’s moderating thermal effect. Even so, it should be borne in mind that the Mediterranean is a warm sea all year round, so the temperature-softening effect that characterizes it is more noticeable in winter than in summer. The summer drought typical of this climate usually lasts three months, and peak rainfall is concentrated in autumn. The present-day town center was formed in the 15th century around the beach. The Canyelles marina is Lloret de Mar’s only leisure port, located at Canyelles beach, where medium-sized boats can be moored. The nearest airports are Girona–Costa Brava, 30 km away, and Barcelona, 75 km away. Girona Airport links Lloret de Mar with a good number of European cities and also has significant charter-flight traffic. Barcelona Airport is connected by scheduled flights to the world’s main cities. In Lloret de Mar there is a golf course and one of the most famous water parks in the area. The coastal path Lloret de Mar–Fenals is one of the most beautiful walks along the Costa Brava.
