Description

When we talk about this palatial residence, known as "pazo" in Galician, we must say that it is a special property with a lot of history - from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. The house, magnificently restored, has about 520m2 built, in addition to a 136m2 parking area, pool area, storage, an independent apartment from the main house, with a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom, dedicated to the caretakers' residence and an impressive estate of 5,446m2, completely enclosed by a stone wall. The stone manor house has a ground floor and first floor; on the entrance floor, there are 4 double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, built-in wardrobes in all of them and exteriors overlooking the estate. In this area, a games or living room has been set up, and the stairs are equipped with a stairlift. We go up to the first floor and find a large kitchen. It is fully furnished in white, very bright and well-ventilated thanks to the large windows overlooking the garden, with a comfortable office area and stairs that allow access to a day room. On this floor is the living room; what to say about this room, it is spacious, stately, with wonderful light reminiscent of English country houses, with an office area, another for relaxation in front of the fireplace, and in another area separated by an arch is the dining room. This room opens to a gallery from which you can see the majestic estate and the pool. On this floor is the master bedroom with its dressing room and private office area, and the en-suite bathroom. The entire first floor has magnificently maintained parquet floors. The house has underfloor heating that provides comfort and warmth to the rooms. As recorded in many writings about this pazo or manor house, it was a palatial residence with an L-shaped floor plan, with an added body in the inner angle. Its name "Vinculeiro" comes from the firstborn son, who was the heir to the property. The heraldic shields carved on the façade speak of the families who owned the house. On December 8th, the feast of Saint "Santiña da Burata" is celebrated, an image that was missing for a long time, until in the 1930s it was found thrown in a stable of a village house and later permanently placed in a niche on the exterior wall of the pazo. The Nobel Prize in Literature, D. Camilo José Cela, who was born in Iria Flavia, left written testimony in the spring of 1971 of his love for this property: "O Pazo do Vinculeiro is beautiful, small, and noble, three virtues. I would like it to become mine to establish my Galician pied-à-terre and a refuge against the wrath, pomp, and vanities of this low world."

Location: Extramundi de Abaixo, Galicia

The location is wonderful, the well-known Pazo Vinculeiro is in EXtramundi de Abajo -Estramundi de Abaixo- in Padrón. The distance between both locations is 1.5 km, about 20 minutes on foot and 4 minutes by car. Other well-known nearby towns are Iria Flavia or Herbón – where the Padrón peppers, known worldwide, come from. This land is an inseparable part of the Camino de Santiago, as according to the Jacobean tradition, the body of the Apostle James landed at the Roman port of Iria Flavia, Padrón. Over time, the consolidation of pilgrimages to Santiago affected all the places through which the Camino passed, and the town of Padrón, as a point on the Portuguese Way, was one of them. Every year thousands of pilgrims pass through Padrón on their way to Compostela, as it often marks the starting point of the last stage of the Portuguese Way. We must not forget that here, in the area of Extramundi, is the Rosalía de Castro House Museum, where the famous Galician writer spent the last years of her life. Surrounded by camellia gardens, where letters and culture are breathed. In Iria Flavia is the Camilo José Cela Museum. The Concello de Padrón is the natural gateway to the Arousa estuary and is located on the geographical border between the south of the province of A Coruña and the north of the province of Pontevedra, separated by the Ulla River. The distance to the coast, with Vilagarcía de Arousa, is 32 km, which can be traveled via the AP-9 highway, and with Rianxo the distance is 20 km.
