Magnificent medieval castle in the Alt Empordà

This magnificent medieval castle, located in Orriols (Alt Empordà), was built between the 17th and 18th centuries from a defensive tower of the 12th century. The castle hides a long history that is sometimes mixed with legend and includes, for example, the passage of Napoleon through its Renaissance courtyard. The building, which measures more than 1,900 m2, has a rectangular floor plan and is arranged around an interior courtyard. The main façade has a door with a round arch and four large Renaissance windows with pediments decorated with sculpted faces. There is also a gargoyle in the shape of a fantastic animal and the bases of some angular sentry boxes. The beautiful central courtyard welcomes us as we enter the castle. All the rooms of the building are distributed around the courtyard. On the ground floor we find the living room, the dining room and the professional kitchen. The lounge, a large room with a billiard room, bar and fireplace, is presided over by a large central pillar that supports the ribbed vault that covers it. In the dining room, the pointed arches that give access to the covered terrace stand out. On the upper floors there are ten spacious bedrooms, all with fireplaces and en-suite bathrooms. Some also have a small living room and kitchenette. It also has an outdoor pool in a beautiful garden overlooking the countryside of Empordà. In the property there is also a house of 340m2 for the staff. In recent years it was in operation as a hotel-restaurant.
