Torrevieja is a city and coastal municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja region. It is located in a landscape of high scenic and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of the most significant salt production areas in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders with Guardamar del Segura to the north, with Orihuela to the south, and with Los Montesinos, Rojales, and San Miguel de Salinas inland. It has 20 km of coastline, from La Mata Beach to Punta Prima, featuring numerous rocky coves and wide beaches, 13 in total. Notable beaches include La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, El Acequión, and Los Náufragos. The city offers a wide range of shopping opportunities with 2,500 shops of all kinds. It has numerous sports associations, sports facilities, many educational centers, a private hospital, a public hospital, hotel facilities, and shopping centers like "Las Habaneras." At the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, members can take sailing, rowing, and other classes. It is well connected by air, being 40km from Alicante's El Altet Airport and 25km south of San Javier Airport in Murcia. It also has good train connections: RENFE stations in Alicante and Murcia. By car: national road 332, Levante highway, Mediterranean highway, and A-37 highway. By bus and boat. Torrevieja has a large port for private yachts and tourist boats offering cruises along the coast and to the Island of Tabarca.
