Description

The entire stone manor house, built on two floors, has been recently renovated with top-quality materials and design. We enter the house and a large entrance hall welcomes us; on the right we find a translucent glass wall that gives access to the kitchen. The room has exposed wooden beams and a modern design, with cabinetry in an elegant sage green, induction hob, oven and microwave, etc. The living room has very high ceilings and huge doors opening onto the estate. This floor has a double bedroom with direct access to the estate, an en-suite bathroom and a large built-in wardrobe. Under the stairs there is a storage area, and the floor also has a guest toilet. From the entrance hall we can also access an area of the house conceived as independent, with a large room with two big windows, one overlooking the estate and the other the beautiful cobbled courtyard. We go up to the first floor of the manor house via a design staircase with floating wooden treads and a glass balustrade, and we find a spacious room with wooden ceilings that could be used as a sitting room, with access to a balcony with a stone balustrade that runs along part of the façade, from where we look out over the estate. From there we access a large anteroom where the sleeping area begins, with three bedrooms, the main one with an en-suite bathroom, an office, and a full bathroom with bathtub. This entire floor has strategically placed skylights that provide natural light throughout. On the ground floor, the house has an area where the boiler room has been installed, as well as the laundry and drying area, the wine cellar area and another storage area. The house has AEROTHERMAL heating. We go outside and at the front stretches the magnificent estate of more than 10,000 m2 with a hórreo, a typical Galician structure traditionally used to store, dry and preserve crops, especially corn and grain. At the back of the house there is a beautiful cobbled courtyard with a very old bread oven and a room for the estate’s tools. In addition, the property has a well and a septic tank. It has three rooms that can be adapted for tourist use by pilgrims passing through the Camino de Santiago, which is only 100 meters away.

Location: Vilar de Donas, Galicia

The location is very good; it is in the Parish of Vilar de Donas, in Palas de Rei (Palas de Rey), in the Ulloa district. It is a town in the province of Lugo with around 3,500 inhabitants, whose history is closely intertwined with hillfort culture (numerous archaeological remains have been found pointing to an early settlement). Thanks to the influence of the Camino de Santiago, the Romanesque style entered the religious architecture of Palas de Rei, leaving its mark on its buildings. A must-see in Palas is the church of Vilar de Donas, declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, and its mural paintings, among the best in Galicia. The history of this quiet town is closely linked to the French Route of the Camino de Santiago; the Codex Calixtinus records that from this point the final stage begins to the Apostle’s tomb, this being the last stage, located 68 km from Santiago de Compostela. With the medieval rise of pilgrimages, the town experienced significant expansion. The Palas de Rei Municipal Council has a notable heritage. It was one of the Galician nobility’s favorite places of residence. Palas de Rei is very well connected to Santiago de Compostela, mainly by road, with a travel time of about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes by car or bus. The area has improved its connectivity with the recent opening of new sections of the A-54 motorway (Lugo–Santiago), via the N-547 and the A-54 motorway. The nearest international airport is Lavacolla in Santiago de Compostela.
