Torrevieja is a coastal city and municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja region. It is located in an area of high landscape and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of the most important saltworks in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura to the north, Orihuela to the south, and Los Montesinos, Rojales, and San Miguel de Salinas inland.
