The ancient parish of Getxo is a municipality in the coast province of Biscay, in the Basque Country. It is located on the right bank of the estuary of Bilbao, at the mouth of Ibaizábal-Nervión river. It is part of the region of Greater Bilbao and the Bilbao metropolitan area. Notable for the presence of palaces and houses built by the gentry during Industrialization. Las Arenas and Neguri emerged in the late nineteenth century as a residential area of the Basque industrial bourgeoisie. The district is characterized by Neguri mansions that, were built to house the cream of the bourgeoisie, still today, a residential area with luxury homes. Neguri´s name, was created by Resurrección María Azkue, former named Aretxetaurre. Neguri comes from the fusion of two Basque words: Negua and Hiri (winter and city).
